Small Business Saturday Favorites!

November 23, 2020

Small Business Saturday is just around the corner, and I’ve rounded up some of my favorite local shops and online boutiques to send some spending love this weekend!

May this list also inspire some holiday gift giving ideas. No kick backs here. I’m just spreading a little love to these small businesses because I genuinely love and own their products. I hope you will too!

The Farmer’s Daughter (Pittsburgh) | Beauty and magic! This shop is just brimming with both! I can get lost here looking for a new plant, ceramic pot or decor trinket. My favorite take home pieces are taper candle sets that come in the most beautiful array of colors. (You can find a soft mocha color on my mantle most of the year.) And let’s talk about flowers. The owner, an actual farmer’s daughter, sources as much as she can from her own garden or locally. If you’re ever in the area during August and September, the shop is brimming with the most beautiful dahlia blooms I’ve ever seen. But floral beauty isn’t limited to then. Stop by. See for yourself. Call in a special order for a friend. And… A little birdie told me that they’ll be setting up virtual holiday appointments for any shoppers unable to shop in store. Yay! {Photos via The Farmer’s Daughter website.}

Jenna Vanden Brink Ceramics (Pittsburgh) | I began following Jenna’s work after an adult ceramic-spoon-making class at Hatch Art Studio. From earthenware to porcelain to hand-crafted jewelry, each piece is both hand-painted and hand-carved for a charming and beautiful result. Her earthenware pieces come in beautiful blue, white or green hues, topped with simple food or floral designs. I mean, who wouldn’t love that adorable little strawberry cup! Porcelain ornaments make for the perfect holiday gift. And how about adding a special hand-maid piece to your jewelry collection. These floral studs just speak to me! {Photos via Jenna Vanden Brink Ceramics website.}

The Daydream Republic (Online) | This online boutique is filled with accessories any little girl would love! From velvet hair bows to sparkly tights to magic capes and dollhouse decor, this shop could fill your child’s stockings with magical gifts. My favorite item is one-of-a-kind faux floral headbands that she creates for the holidays- antlers for Christmas, bunny ears for Easter and Minnie Mouse ears for all year long! {Photos via The Daydream Republic website.}

Hatch Art Studio (Pittsburgh) | Hatch believes that art and play are languages that children use to express themselves and find meaning. As a artist myself, this is an idea I can get behind! The best part? Screen-free, imaginative playtime that they can ship right to your door! Check out their online shop for some wonderful holiday gift ideas. My kids love the Chunkie Paint Sticks, Neon Watercolors and Hatch Play Kits. And I’m just waiting for the day that Braelyn is old enough to attend their summer Dollhouse Camp! The owner, Shannon, is a former Soiree by Souleret client, and we are so excited to see her business become a success.

Cut Arts by Silhouette Artist Karl Johnson (Online) | I’ve always loved this classic art form! Karl created a virtual silhouette of our son this summer, which is now on display in my office. A silhouette is a wonderful gift for parents, grandparents or yourself (hehe). Karl’s products aren’t limited to just paper. You can place a silhouette on a porcelain or silver ornament, or have it engraved into jewelry. {Photos via Cut Arts website.}

Nota Bene Fine Paper Boutique (Aspinwall) | I tend to get lost inside a stationery store, and then spend way too much money! This is always the case at Nota Bene. Stationery collections range from beautiful letter-pressed designs to cheeky greeting cards. I fill my card collection with so many new greeting cards visit after visit. New baby? I love their adorable custom knits and soft Jelly Cat stuffies. In search of a personalized gift? How about a custom stationery set? {Photos via Nota Bene Fine Paper website.}

Nicole Bathie (Online) | It’s hard to pick a favorite when all of Nicola’s earring designs are so beautiful. (And if you’re a bride, consider one of her designs for your wedding day!) My wish list grows every time she adds another garden-inspired earring to her collection. Bonus! Use code “friday” for 25% off 11/20 through 11/30. {Photos via Nicola Bathie website.}

Kiya Tomlin (Pittsburgh) | Comfortable and stylish seems to be the perfect tagline, especially for 2020. Why not step up your work from home wardrobe with one of Kiya’s designs! I mean, how cute is this Peep Shoulder Dress? Bonus! She’s offering 15% off all sales for Black Friday. {Photos via Kiya Tomlin website.}

Calligraphers (Pittsburgh & Worldwide) | The beauty of calligraphy isn’t just limited to envelopes and addresses. Consider hiring a local calligrapher to create a gift for a special someone or a piece of art for your home. My dad is an ancestry fanatic. Last year, I hired Judith Brown to pen our family tree. It’s our newest family heirloom and a work of art! Want to learn a new skill? Consider taking a calligraphy class from a local pro. Need a sentimental gift? (Hey brides and grooms, remember your first anniversary gift is paper!) Quotes or music lyrics penned and framed are a wonderful option. Local favorites include Judith Browne Calligraphy, Initial Impression Calligraphy, Oh Joyful Day, Calligraski and Victoria Fiaretti. National favorites that I’ve been eyeing for upcoming projects include DiDi Letters and Amanda Reid Designs. (Amanda founded Calligraphers of Color. Check out her Instagram page to view, connect with and support black calligraphers all over the world.)

Scamps Toffee (Ligonier) | Delicious? Check! Cool ambiance? Double check! I discovered Scamps Toffee from a photographer friend, and have been hooked ever since. Their buttery soft chocolate toffee just melts in your mouth. (I’ve been known to finish an entire pack in one sitting.) If you have a chance to visit their shop in Historic Downtown Ligonier, you’ll really fall in love. This sweet shop is decked out in bright orange and white stripes and lattice! Their online holiday shop is filled with popcorn, chocolate bark, toffee, dessert sauces and so much more. {Photos via Scamps Toffee website.}

Damaris Bailey (Online) | Damaris Bailey is one of my favorite Instagram finds! I love supporting this momma of three, especially when her designs are so charming and well-made. (I donned her Celia dress for a recent family photo shoot!) I’ll just be sitting here dreaming of the day when I add another dress to my collection. {Photos Via Damaris Bailey Website & Lauren Renee Photography.}

The Picket Fence (Shadyside) | This quaint shop is filled with so many gift options! From the most adorable selection of children’s clothing, to entertaining accents, to a select line of women’s clothing and jewelry, you’ll find something for everyone on your list! They even have an entire line dedicated to Pittsburgh gifts!

White Jasmine Lab (Pittsburgh) White Jasmine Lab specializes in floral preservation using epoxy resin. It’s a modern way to preserve and display flowers from special occasions. Bonus! They have an entire week of Black Friday deals here! {Photos via White Jasmine Lab website.}

Fox Blossom Co. (Pittsburgh & Online) | Curated gift boxes? Yes, please! Fox Blossom Co. makes opening a gift an experience. You have the option of purchasing a pre-designed box or creating a special one of your own.

Freshly Picked (Online) | Owner Susan Peterson started this company from her kitchen, using yard sale scraps to craft moccasins for her baby boy. Her artisans continue to hand-make products for their patrons from high quality materials. Product lines include moccasins, footwear, swaddles diaper bags and now play mats and play pits. And when they say their baby moccasins don’t fall off, they mean it! These were our only shoes of choice when Braelyn was little, and now they’ve become my favorite gift for parents-to-be.
