Many business bucket list items were checked off this April, when Melissa of Devoted to You and I, paired together with the Parks Conservancy and a dream team of vendors, gave away a wedding to one deserving couple. Flash forward seven months, and I’m thrilled to show you the results of the Pittsburgh wedding community coming together for TWO common goals- Heather and Brian’s wedding day + a unique bridal showcase. As Victoria of Burgh Brides shared in last week’s FEATURE, this event was a shining example of “community over competition!”
The partnership of two event planning companies, with two distinct design styles, for one cohesive and beautifully executed event is no simple feat. However, Melissa and I each mixed metals with garden elements to invoke an urban garden feel. Each of our visions, brought to life by an incredible team, are showcased below. Look close and you’ll even see behind-the-scenes shots of our teams, and bridal show attendees, in action!
From where did my vision come? From the florals themselves! I’ve long awed at the beauty of a vine crawling up an urban building (like our own Pittsburgh courthouse) or florals overgrowing in urban areas where you’d least expect them. I worked with Kelly of Fox Petal Floral to create masses of greens falling from thin metal stands, florals housed in glass cubes, and vines crawling up drape for a ceremony backdrop. Brides often bulk at the idea of using heavy greens. I aimed to show couples that greens can be just as beautiful as flowers! Place settings featured antique botanical plates, linen napkins and elaborate gold flatware. Farm chairs popped with a favorite detail of mine- large bows!!!
Melissa was inspired by color- plum, navy, golds and greens -all featured in a napkin ring and enlivened in incredible floral orbs by Community Flower Shop. Melissa’s other touches included facetted gold flatware, colorful goblets, gold vine charger plates and a metal-backed chair to tie in the urban vibe.
After flipping the Tent at Schenley Plaza from ceremony to reception in just 17 minutes, we surprised guests (and toasted our team) with flowers in champagne!
